About 3Gites-1975
Clarendon College was founded on February 2, 1942, by Reverend Lester Davy. Origins: The school was established in Chapelton to provide secondary education for the children of local farmers.
Early Days
It began at a location called Rose Bank with only two teachers—including Rev. Davy—and 10 students.
Current Status
Today, it is the oldest and largest high school in the parish of Clarendon, sitting on a 120-acre campus at its present location in Tavanore.
Please see my earlier note about our starting year of 1975, not the year we graduated.
Legacy
Rev. Davy famously stated during a church service before the opening, "Tomorrow, by God's grace, I shall light a candle in Chapelton, whose flame shall never be put out".
Tragedy
Just 28 days after the school opened, Rev. Davy died in a train accident while traveling to Kingston to purchase textbooks for the new institution.
